Constructions that meet it
- Halogen-free compounds in every non-metallic layer: changes no layer: a property of the sheath compound. Halogen-free compounds in every non-metallic layer (insulation, fillers, bedding, sheath) (LSZH, XLPE, EPR, PE). Drawbacks: Weaker against oil and water than PVC unless cross-linked.

Tests
- IEC 60754-1: halogen acid gas content. Pass: below 5 mg/g HCl (secondary); 0.5 % halogen printed by Draka
- IEC 60754-2:2011 + A1:2019: pH and conductivity of combustion gas solution. Pass: pH ≥ 4.3 and conductivity ≤ 10 µS/mm (weighted)
- EN 60684-2 (rail): fluorine content. Pass: ≤ 0.1 % (SAB Bröckskes)
How specifications state it
'Halogen free acc. to IEC 60754-1/-2'; the limits are usually written into the specification.
