Constructions that meet it

  • HEPR / EPR insulation: changes no layer: a property of the insulation compound. HEPR / EPR insulation (HEPR, EPR). Drawbacks: Rubber insulation for 90 °C and above; MV-105 rating in North America.
  • XLPE rated 105 °C (MV-105): changes no layer: a property of the insulation compound. TR-XLPE or XLPE at 105 °C (MV-105) (XLPE grade). Drawbacks: LS Cable: 105 °C normal, 140 °C emergency with XLPE jacket.
  • Silicone rubber insulation and sheath: changes no layer: a property of the insulation compound. Silicone rubber insulation and sheath (silicone (SiHF)). Drawbacks: Helukabel SiHF: -60 to +180 °C fixed; mechanical properties fall above about 90 to 100 °C without air (Lapp, dealer note).
  • Cross-linked halogen-free compound rated 120 °C: changes no layer: a property of the insulation compound. Cross-linked halogen-free compounds rated 120 °C (cross-linked polyolefin). Drawbacks: EN 50618 PV cables.

Tests

  • IEC 60216-2: thermal endurance (Lapp PV cable: 120 °C conductor). Pass: maker's endurance figure
  • EN 50618 Table 2 / EN 60068-2-78: damp heat 1000 h at 90 °C and 85 % RH. Pass: maker sheet does not give the limit
  • Product standard ageing tests: air oven ageing at the class temperature. Pass: set per material in the product standard

How specifications state it

Specified as a maximum conductor temperature (90, 105, 120, 180 °C) or an ambient, proven by the insulation material class.

Where it is asked for

  • steel, glass and foundry plants
  • boiler houses
  • engine rooms
  • PV arrays
  • near furnaces and ovens
