Constructions that meet it

  • Fine-wire class 5 or 6 conductor: changes no layer: a property of the conductor. Class 6 (or 5) fine-wire conductor, short lay, bundle stranding, pressure-extruded sheath (class 6 copper). Drawbacks: Cost.
  • PUR, TPU or TPE sheath: changes no layer: a property of the sheath compound. PUR or TPE sheath (or special PVC) (PUR / TPE). Drawbacks: PUR for oil and abrasion too.
  • Tinned copper braid: changes the cable's layers. Braid screen with high flex life for servo cables (tinned Cu).

Tests

No international test method: specifications state this in words. Tests that exist:

  • Maker test rigs (Lapp, igus chainflex): cycles in an energy chain at given travel, speed, acceleration and bend radius. Pass: Lapp ÖLFLEX CHAIN: 3 to 10 million cycles at 7.5 to 10 x D; Beckhoff example 5 million cycles, 240 m/min, 30 m/s², 7 x D

How specifications state it

Specified as cycles, minimum dynamic bend radius, travel length, speed and acceleration; maker tests, no IEC test.

Where it is asked for

  • machine tools
  • automation
  • cranes
  • robots
