Abrasion resistance
The sheath resists wear from dragging, pulling and rubbing.

Constructions that meet it
- PUR, TPU or TPE sheath: changes no layer: a property of the sheath compound. PUR or TPU outer sheath (PUR / TPU). Drawbacks: Cost; PUR not halogen free unless FR grade (typical).
- Hard polyamide (nylon) jacket over the sheath: changes the cable's layers. Thin nylon jacket over the sheath (PA). Drawbacks: Low friction too (VESTAMID listing).
- Thicker sheath: changes the cable's layers. Thicker sheath (same compound, larger thickness). Drawbacks: Diameter, weight.

Tests
- EN 50289-3-7: abrasion resistance of the cable sheath (communication cables). Pass: not read
- EN 50289-3-8: abrasion resistance of sheath markings. Pass: not read
- IS 10810 Part 55 (India): abrasive wear of the outer sheath of armoured cables. Pass: not read
How specifications state it
Often only 'abrasion resistant'; Lapp PUR sheets claim it without a test.
Where it is asked for
- mining and trailing cables
- drag chains
- pulling into long ducts
- PV
