Constructions that meet it
- Chemically resistant sheath compound: changes no layer: a property of the sheath compound. Chemically resistant sheath compound (PE, cross-linked polyolefin, PUR, CPE) (PE, XLPO, PUR, CPE). Drawbacks: Compound choice.
- Aluminium laminate bonded to the sheath: changes the cable's layers. Copolymer-coated aluminium foil bonded to a PE sheath, or a lead sheath (Al copolymer laminate, Pb). Drawbacks: Eupen for petrochemical grounds with oil or acid pollution; adds metal to earth.

Tests
- EN 60811-404 (as used by EN 50618): immersion in N-oxalic acid and N-sodium hydroxide. Pass: classification AF 2 per EN 50618; AF2 is IEC 60364-5-51:2005 Table 51A, p. 25: corrosive or polluting substances of atmospheric origin significant (limits not in the sheet)
How specifications state it
Often only 'resistant to acids and alkalis'; PV cables name the EN 60811-404 immersion and AF 2.
Where it is asked for
- chemical and petrochemical plants
- PV on agricultural land
- wastewater plants
