HFCO

HFCO is a KS / KEPCO type names (Korea) cable designation: HF = HF: halogen free; C = C: cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation; O = O: low-toxic flame-retardant polyolefin sheath; HFCO = HFCO: XLPE insulated cable with a halogen-free, low-toxic flame-retardant polyolefin sheath, 0.6/1 kV (also 6/10 kV). 0.6/1 kV; 6/10 kV (Taihan p.18, p.23). KS C IEC 60502-1 (0.6/1 kV); KS C 3341 (6/10 kV).

Fire behaviour (EU CPR)

  • Halogen-free compound (HF, HFCO). Under the CPR this shows in the additional classes: acidity a1 to a3 (EN 60754-2) and smoke s1 to s3 (EN 50399; s1a and s1b add the 3 m cube test EN 61034-2). The main class, Aca to Fca, depends on the whole construction.

Typically targeted, as declared by makers for this kind of construction in the examples this site checked (not the class of this cable):

Listed as sources, alphabetically by maker. No maker pays to appear here.

  • Flame retardant (O, HFCO). The single-cable test behind class Eca is EN 60332-1-2 (the flame stops within 425 mm). Bunched cables are tested by IEC 60332-3-24 category C (1.5 l/m, 20 min, char at most 2.5 m), which is not a CPR class test; the CPR ladder test for B1ca to Dca is EN 50399.

A CPR class is declared by the maker in its Declaration of Performance and printed on the sheath (EN 50575 cl 7). This decoder does not assign one. What the CPR classes mean →

HFCO on a drum

The smallest drum that passes every check, for 9.1 mm and about 210 kg/km as the cable designer builds it. Drums as their makers print them; lengths are estimates within a few per cent of the cable makers' own tables: whole layers, wound diameter 1.05 × OD, 50 mm freeboard under the flange rim.

LengthDrum size (its makers)LayersGross weight
500 mKTG 6 (600 mm flange), plywood KTG drums (Europe), Bayka11 of 13112 kg
1,000 mKTG 8 (800 mm flange), wood KTG drums (Europe), Bayka, KTG15 of 15241–245 kg

Barrel at least 20 × OD = 182 mm for a cable of this kind (Low voltage, single core): KTG table, the cable's datasheet wins. A load rating is the drum maker's own.

Laying, sizes and datasheet: HFCO

HFCO belongs to the family LV XLPE power cables: the lowest laying temperature, bending radius, pulling, depth, drum handling and the test after laying, every rule with its sources. Laying and handling guide: LV XLPE power cables
