MV-105 3/C 250 kcmil 15 kV 133 % EPR

Nominal calculation, not one manufacturer's datasheet. The conductor is NEC Chapter 9 Table 8; the walls are the ICEA nominals as Okonite and Southwire reproduce them, the screens and the jacket the values six makers print or give through their diameters, because UL 1072 and ICEA S-93-639 were not read. Check the datasheet before you specify or order.

By NEC Table 8 and the catalogued walls, MV-105 3/C 250 kcmil 15 kV 133 % EPR comes to an overall diameter of about 67.3 mm and a weight of about 7,260 kg/km.

MV-105 is the UL 1072 medium voltage cable of NEC Article 311, here as a single copper conductor or three with a ground: an extruded strand screen, EPR insulation at the wall of its class and level (100, 133 or 173 %), an extruded insulation screen, a 5 mil copper tape at 25 % overlap and a PVC jacket; the three-conductor cable lays three such cores with a bare copper ground in an interstice, fillers and a binder tape under its jacket. MV-90 has the same walls. Checked against Southwire, Okonite, Prysmian, AmerCable, LS Cable and Priority Wire: research/designer-americas/mv105.md in the site repository.

Materials in this cable: Copper, PVC, Semiconductive compound, Rubber (EPR, silicone)

Weight, by part

Conductors3,830 kg/km
Metal screens and armour280 kg/km
Insulation, semicon, tapes, fillers and sheaths3,140 kg/km

Each layer's cross-section times its density; stranded conductors, laid-up cores and helical wires count 2 % longer than the cable. Densities: copper 8.89 and aluminium 2.703 g/cm³ (the values of IEC 60028 and IEC 60889); XLPE 0.92, PE 0.94, PVC 1.45, semicon 1.12, steel 7.85 g/cm³ (usual compound values).
