TFR-8

TFR-8 is a KS / KEPCO type names (Korea) cable designation: TFR-8 = TFR-8: fire-resistant cable for fire-service circuits: fire-proof layer, XLPE insulation, heat-resistant reinforced layer, flame-retardant PVC sheath; TFR-8 = TFR-8: 0.6/1 kV fire-resistant cable for fire-service circuits, flame-retardant PVC sheath. 0.6/1 kV (Taihan p.50). KS C IEC 60502-1, Taihan standard.

Fire behaviour (EU CPR)

  • Fire resistant (TFR-8): the circuit keeps working in a fire. That is circuit integrity, classified apart from reaction to fire (EN 13501-3: P and PH classes, 15 to 120 min). It gives no reaction-to-fire class; that one is declared on its own.

  • Flame retardant (TFR-8). The single-cable test behind class Eca is EN 60332-1-2 (the flame stops within 425 mm). Bunched cables are tested by IEC 60332-3-24 category C (1.5 l/m, 20 min, char at most 2.5 m), which is not a CPR class test; the CPR ladder test for B1ca to Dca is EN 50399.

  • PVC sheath (TFR-8).

Typically targeted, as declared by makers for this kind of construction in the examples this site checked (not the class of this cable):

Listed as sources, alphabetically by maker. No maker pays to appear here.

A CPR class is declared by the maker in its Declaration of Performance and printed on the sheath (EN 50575 cl 7). This decoder does not assign one. What the CPR classes mean →

Not equivalent, because

IEC 60331 ≠ BS 6387 (C, W, Z) ≠ BS 8491 ≠ EN 50200 (PH) ≠ DIN 4102-12 (E30, E60, E90) ≠ UL 2196

Not equivalent, because Flame or furnace, temperature, mechanical shock, water and what is tested (a cable alone, or a cable with its supports) all differ: a time or class from one test says nothing about another.

IEC 60331
