BS 7629-1

BS 7629-1 is a BS 6004 / BS 6500 / BS 7211 type numbers (UK) cable designation: BS 7629-1 = Fire resistant 300/500 V cable that keeps the circuit working in a fire, screened, with a circuit protective conductor (CPC); BS 7629-1 = BS 7629-1: fire resistant 300/500 V cable for fire alarm and emergency lighting circuits, screened, with an uninsulated CPC under the screen, LSZH sheath. 300/500 V, 70 C maximum conductor temperature (Anixter p. 1:32). BS 7629-1 (Anixter p. 1:32; Prysmian FP200 Gold).

Fire behaviour (EU CPR)

  • Halogen-free compound (BS 7629-1). Under the CPR this shows in the additional classes: acidity a1 to a3 (EN 60754-2) and smoke s1 to s3 (EN 50399; s1a and s1b add the 3 m cube test EN 61034-2). The main class, Aca to Fca, depends on the whole construction.

Typically targeted, as declared by makers for this kind of construction in the examples this site checked (not the class of this cable):

Listed as sources, alphabetically by maker. No maker pays to appear here.

  • Fire resistant (BS 7629-1): the circuit keeps working in a fire. That is circuit integrity, classified apart from reaction to fire (EN 13501-3: P and PH classes, 15 to 120 min). It gives no reaction-to-fire class; that one is declared on its own.

A CPR class is declared by the maker in its Declaration of Performance and printed on the sheath (EN 50575 cl 7). This decoder does not assign one. What the CPR classes mean →

Not equivalent, because

IEC 60331 ≠ BS 6387 (C, W, Z) ≠ BS 8491 ≠ EN 50200 (PH) ≠ DIN 4102-12 (E30, E60, E90) ≠ UL 2196

Not equivalent, because Flame or furnace, temperature, mechanical shock, water and what is tested (a cable alone, or a cable with its supports) all differ: a time or class from one test says nothing about another.

IEC 60331
